Questions people ask before hiring an immigration lawyer
How much does it cost?
Fees depend on the type of case and how much work it involves. We explain our fee for your matter before you decide to hire us. Government filing fees are separate and set by the agencies.
How long will my case take?
Processing times are set by the government agencies and change often, so no one can promise a date. During your evaluation we will explain what is typical for your case type and what could affect it.
Can I travel while my case is pending?
It depends on the case. For some applications, leaving the United States can cause problems or even end the application. Talk with us before you book any trip.
Do I need a lawyer?
The law does not require one for every application. Many people choose to have a lawyer review their situation, check their forms and evidence, and help them avoid mistakes that cause delays.
Can I speak with you in Mandarin?
Yes. We work in English and Mandarin, and you can write to us or speak with us in either language.
Can you help me if I am outside the U.S.?
In many cases, yes. We work with clients online and by phone, including clients abroad. Some steps, such as a consular interview, happen at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
What does the free case evaluation cover?
It is a conversation about your situation, your goals and the options that may fit. It does not create an attorney-client relationship. That begins only after a conflict check and a signed agreement.
What should I have ready before I reach out?
A short description of your situation is enough to start. If you have them, it helps to know your current immigration status and any deadlines or notices you have received.
